The Community offers Monastic Experience Days designed for women who are interested in exploring the contemplative life within a monastic community. These special days provide an opportunity to discover more about the daily rhythm of prayer, work, and community life as lived by the Poor Clares. The day is also very helpful if you are discerning whether a monastic vocation might be right for you.

Participants typically join the sisters in their liturgical prayer (the Divine Office), spend time in silent prayer, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and reflection, and learn about the unique charism and history of the Poor Clare Order. There are also opportunities for informal conversation with the sisters, as well as times for questions and guidance in discernment.

To all who promoted our Cherished Daughters event, may God reward you. Likewise, thank you to the thirty or more young women who attended and participated so wholeheartedly. Beth Davis of Blessed is She ministry gave a beautiful talk on the love of God the Father for each of us and showed how we can sometimes believe lies about ourselves. The work of grace is there to help us to own what is already the truth, that we are beloved daughters of God and to live out of that reality. Our Abbess, Sr Colette shared something of what it means to have our identity rooted in God rather than in the perceptions of others or the perceptions we might have about ourselves. She realised this very much when she was received into the Poor Clare Order and got the habit. No longer having control over what she could wear or how she looked caused her to reflect on the extent to which relied on her appearance to give her a sense of value.

Róisín, our music minister sang Come out of Hiding, and Goodness of God (among other songs) beautifully which really enhanced the feel of the day as well as some quiet meditative music to accompany the reflection at the end of Beth’s talk. Finishing the day with Adoration and Evening prayer with the sisters was a perfect end to a perfect day!

The feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Participants went away with a new confidence in their beloved-ness as ‘cherished daughters of God. As Beth said, ‘God doesn’t just love us collectively, He loves us particularly, individually and personally. Participants were encouraged  to bring before the Lord in prayer feelings and emotions that might have been overlooked during the course of childhood. We pray that the healing process begun at this event will continue into the future. All the participants said that they would come to another event such as this so watch this space!

Attending Adoration and Evening Prayer on Sundays offers an opportunity to centre oneself in the presence of Christ, allowing His grace to heal our hearts as we remain in His love. It fosters a a deeper connection with God and others inspiring us to go out of ourselves in charity. It also connects us to millions of other worldwide who pray Evening prayer on Sunday.

Some compelling reasons for attending daily Mass in our chapel or in any Church:

  •   It  deepens your relationship with Jesus through the Eucharist.
  •   It offers spiritual strength and guidance for life’s challenges.
  •   Attending Mass provides a sense of community and shared faith.
  •   Regular participation helps nurture gratitude and peace in daily life.

When we succeed in living in God’s time, open to the epiphany underlying every little happening and every commonplace gesture, we are in fact engaging in a truly contemplative exercise and making a declaration of freedom in the face of a world that suffers from a self-centred understanding of time which pushes people towards despair or mindless escapism.  The contemplative is a witness to the truth that time is not money but relationship.
